Some of WA’s most acclaimed artists have been awarded top prizes as part of the 2013 Minnawarra Art Awards, including Artsource members Eveline Kotai and Pam Langdon.

The Gerry Gauntlett Award, a $5,000 non-acquisitive prize, was awarded to Eveline Kotai for her work Thrum #2. This caps off a successful year for Eveline, who won the prestigious Blake Prize just six months ago for Writing on Air – Mantra Triptych.

Pam Langdon took out the $1,000 non-acquisitive prize for her work Britannica Metamorphosis.

The Stockland $5000 3D commissioned prize was awarded to Sue Hamilton for her piece Spike, and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority’s $5000 acquisitive prize was awarded to Jeremy Kirwan-Ward for Treelines.

“The Minnawarra Art Awards get better every year. This year we have seen a very high calibre of artists display their artwork as part of the exhibition," Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones explained.

“Judges Belinda Cobby from Artbank and Isobel Wise, Art Curator for the City of Perth, were extremely impressed with the professionalism of the space and exhibition."

“The judges were astounded by the excellence of the artworks submitted by the artists, making the decision extremely difficult due to the variety of media presented and the outstanding skill artists have displayed through their works."

Artsource Chief Executive, Gavin Buckley, who spoke at the corporate launch, said "the Minnawarra Art Award it is fantastic to opportunity for WA artists to showcase their work."

"It is an outstanding initiative bringing acclaimed artists and their works to the City of Armadale. It not only benefits the artists by providing exposure and recognising excellence, but also it brings the community together allowing people to experience some of the best art this state has to offer," he continued.
