Jillian Kurz

Biography

I embarked on my formal art education at TAFE in Perth and Melbourne. In 2008 I completed the Honours year of my BA in Fine Art at RMIT University in Melbourne which was a major driver in making my art practice more contemporary. I currently reside in Perth. In the years before and after University I travelled and lived overseas, particularly in South East Asia which has greatly informed my art. My work has been selected in several art award exhibitions.

Artist Statement

My practice stems from journeys through landscapes. I am influenced by Asian art and in particular Zen philosophy of painting. My abstract works explore elements of space and stillness. In my work layers of washes are applied to canvas or paper. The use of colours, shapes and patterns are intrinsic to my work.
