Robert Ewing

Biography

I graduated with a Dip of Fine Art from Claremont School of Art in 1985. I live in the south-west town of PINJARRA, a rural area dominated by the Darling Scarp to the east and Swan Coastal Plain farmlands to the west. This local rural environment features as a primary source of inspiration. My work is represented in various Australian collections and has received numerous awards including, 1993 Archibald Prize Salon De Refuse, 2011 Dobell, 2012 Adelaide Perry and 2012 Wynne finalist Art Gallery of NSW. 2012 First Prize Royal Agricultural Society of WA Open Art Award, 2014 BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina Award for Excellence, The Survey Exhibition, Bunbury Regional Art Galleries, Invited finalist - 2012, '13, '14, '15, '16 Tattersall’s Club Landscape Prize, Brisbane Queensland, Finalist 2015 - Calleen Art Award Cowra, NSW, Finalist 2016 - Kilgour Art Prize, Newcastle Art Gallery, NSW.

Artist Statement

My arts practice is an expression of my observations of the natural environment combined with ideas of the garden as a place of the constructed ideal. I create images that are a reflection of these contrasting elements of landscape and I’m particularly interested in exploring how we reconcile our place within the natural environment.
