client services: Our CLients

Artsource clients demonstrate that to make a project individual, striking and memorable, there is a material advantage in utilising the skills of visual artists to achieve part of that aim.

Artsource works with the private sector, local and state government, individuals, education and arts organisations to source visual artists and develop projects.

Advertising agencies, architecture and landscape architecture firms use artsource services. Also galleries, restaurants, design companies, engineering and mining companies.

Education systems including state and private schools use artsource to find artists able to work with students and/or teachers, either to provide additional skills, facilitate specific projects or for exhibition opportunities. Many education clients from a range of institutions seek advice on project development or to request a presentation about employment opportunities for artists. The institutions that regularly use our services tend to be the independent secondary schools and TAFE, but we often have requests from State Government Schools for artists in residence.

Local Governments are significant commissioners of artists for a wide range of projects. In 2005, close to $500,000 worth of opportunities for artists were filtered through artsource from 34 Local Government Authorities. The type of projects vary, from community based workshops, community art projects resulting in a temporary or permanent work to large scale public works. As local communities become more vocal in their lifestyle requests, local government is generally quick to act. Projects over the past year vary in budget from $2,000 – to $250,000.

Arts Organisations
All of the arts organisations operating in WA strive to work closely with each other. There is a huge range of skills and expertise contained within these organisations, and opportunities for cross- pollination exist continuously. Artsource works with other organisations also in the King Street Arts Centre: Country ArtsWA, Form – the Center for Contemporary Design WA, Community Arts Network WA, Ausdance, BuzzDance, STEPS Youth Dance Company and the WA Youth Theatre Organisation. We also provide services to Perth International Arts Festival, Awesome International Children’s Festival, Arts Edge, Artrage, Western Australian Symphony Orchestra, Barking Gecko, Yirri Yarkin and many Community Arts Organisations.

Smaller country based independent arts organisations often call on our services, and we are always delighted to assist. We are very well aware of the difficulties of operating an art centre in regional WA and gaining access to the right artist for the job.

Artsource works with State Government on small scale projects including providing images to the Department of Culture and the Arts for the Business and the Arts Sponsorship Awards. We also assist other Government departments to develop projects or find artists for projects outside of the existing capital works program, administered by the Department of Housing and Works.

NB State Gove7rnment Percent for Art projects are dealt with by the art consultants contracted to the Government by the Department of Housing and Works for a fixed term to manage State Government Percent for Art Projects. Several Percent for Art Coordinators subscribe to artsource to take advantage of the many services on offer.
