ARTSOURCE APPROACH:
Artsource was approached by the
interior designers for the project to assist them
to source artworks for the new resort. We suggested
a combination of commissioning works for specific
sites with direct purchases of previously made
works.
Artsource developed a presentation
for the client using the architects plans and
the interior designers colour palette. The presentation
included a broad range of artworks by a fairly
large number of artists. This allowed the client
to provide useful feedback as to which artists
work looked as though it would be appropriate
for the spaces.
Artsource then began to negotiate
with specific artists to undertake commissions
Commissioned works included Penny
Bovell’s four foyer paintings, Jeremy Kirwan
Ward’s two works for the function room,
Nic Compton’s boat piece for the pond directly
outside the lounge area and Anne Neil’s
two dimensional relief work for the buffet area.
Purchased works by artists with
a local connection to the area included those
by Rodney Laws and Shane Pickett.
We also contacted the artists
whose work had attracted interest, visited their
studios and galleries and selected works for specific
sites. As the project developed, some artists
were approached directly to design or make additional
works for other spaces. The client acquired through
commission and purchase fourteen artworks appropriate
for specific sites, within budget and on time.
The contemporary nature of the artworks has been
commented on favourably in reviews of the resort. |
