ARTSOURCE APPROACH:

The Chamber approached artsource after having their offices completely re-modeled. They wished to add artworks to finish them off, and as they had no existing art collection. artsource suggested the development of a collection policy to provide a framework for the process and for acquisition of future works. The policy was developed to focus on works by emerging Indigenous and regional artists – a sector of most interest to the Chamber of Minerals and Energy , given their core business. With the policy complete, artsource began the next phase of the project.

The Chamber was also keen to represent regions that had a significant mining industry and also to focus on emerging artists where possible. There was also a desire to commission a work out of a collection of old maps. Artsource suggested regional artist Trish Little to undertake the commission and Trish entered into an agreement to make some works for a meeting room. She did this via an artist in residency, working in a spare space at the Chamber for a week, and wove a series of paper pieces mounted on board for the room.

Artsource then prepared a presentation of works from regional artists from the Kimberley, Mid West, Goldfields and also works from a metropolitan based Noongar artist. Working with a modest budget, the Chamber acquired a total of 16 works within the budget and required timeframe.
