CLIENT BRIEF:

The Town of Victoria Park was looking to commission an Artist to design and install a public artwork for the wall of its administration building. The artwork was to cover an approximate area of 27.5m2. Given that the function of the Administration Building is to service the residents of the area, it was important to consider the ethos and population demographics of the Town and perhaps represent them in the artwork design. This work was commissioned in line with the Victoria Park Public Art Master Plan. The Master Plan is funded by an annual contribution of .75% of Council rates.

COMMISSION STYLE:

Open competition

ARTSOURCE
APPROACH:

Artsource was engaged to work closely with Staff to identify and manage the process for commissioning public art in the Town of Victoria Park.

ABOUT THE WORK:

The images within the artwork represent networks within plant life, the man made urban environment, a strong conceptual link to the Town Administration and the community of Victoria Park. This work was made up of 30 digitally printed, folded aluminium panels that span the façade of the Town of Victoria Civic Building. The artwork is constructed from Vitra-bond, a long-lasting digitally printed surface that is capable of withstanding harsh external environmental conditions. These panels are lit from behind offering a night time transformation of the work. The art work was unveiled in February 2009.
