ARTSOURCE
APPROACH:
The City of Wanneroo – located
in the northern suburbs of Perth is one that has
experienced enormous and rapid growth. The City
has embraced public art since its beginnings and
with the construction of a new library at Clarkson
determined to include public art as a part of
the structure.
Rather than artsource coordinating
the project, we suggested that we mentor an appropriate
employee through the scoping, brief development,
short-listing, design concept and commission process.
From our point of view this is an important way
to ensure that there are more people interested
in and able to undertake the public art commissioning
process. The officer involved was so enthusiastic
and capable, that after the contracts were exchanged,
there was very little need for us to be involved
apart from occasional phone calls.
Artsource is really delighted
with the way this project has played out and look
forward to further opportunities to mentor through
