workshops
Artsource offers a lively and useful
annual series of workshops and forums in both metropolitan
and regional WA. The program is tailored to artists’
needs with the goal of enhancing artists’ ability
to earn income from an art practice. Topics covered
include funding, exhibiting, documentation,
promotion and marketing.
Experts and experienced artists are
invited to present at each workshop or discussion forum
to provide practical advice and real life experiences.
Registration fees are kept to a minimum and the atmosphere
is generally informal – so it’s good for
networking too.
The Regional & Indigenous workshop
program is on a needs and capacity basis. A full list of the workshop offerings is available here.
Artsource gratefully acknowledges its
partnerships with Sculpture by the Sea and the Australia
Business Arts Foundation in the delivery of selected

Six artists are invited to talk for six minutes about their arts practice or a particular project that they are working on. There will be an opportunity to ask questions along the way and to chat in the refreshment break.
Presenting artists:
Peteris Ciemitis www.ciemitis.com
Peteris Ciemitis is a practicing visual artist and urban designer. Trained at the Claremont School of Art, he has held solo, and participated in many group exhibitions in Latvia, Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
His work revolves around portraiture and figurative representation, has received numerous awards and has been a finalist twice in the Archibald Prize. Peteris' work is represented in public and private collections in Australia and Latvia.
Olga Cironis
Olga Cironis is an award winning artist with a practice that spans over twenty years, exhibiting extensively throughout Australia. In 2007 Olga won the prestigious Bank West art prize with her piece "Essence", followed by a residency at Heathcote Museum and Gallery which consisted of sight responsive installations exploring the tentative history of the building as a residential psychiatric hospital.
Olga's current work investigates the discrepancy between what we see, and what conceptually exists behind it, through her process of covering and concealing, heightening our sense of the material world.
Janine McAullay-Bott
Janine is a self taught weaver using natural Fibre and Wood. Her weaves are culturally significant, ever-evolving, and a way of visualising her people; their culture, the unique sense of humour they possess.
McAullay-Bott's ambition through her art and her heart is to convey to the public the beauty of the Noongar peoples of the southwest of Western Australia: her mother's people, her ancestors. When looking into the weave you can see the spirits of the native animals and the Noongars they represent, depending on what is in your heart.
She inherited a gift from the old people which could be taken away at any moment. The weaves must be represented in the right way, always dignified like the beautiful spirits they represent.
Angela McHarrie
Angela graduated with a BA (Art) from Curtin University of Technology in 2008 and an Advanced Diploma Art & Design (Fine Art) from the WA School of Art, Design and Media at Central TAFE in 2005. Since graduating from TAFE, she's been involved in sixteen group exhibitions and held one solo. McHarrie is represented by Perth Galleries in WA and Harrison Galleries, Sydney in NSW. Her second solo exhibition will be held in October this year at Perth Galleries.
She utilises a wide variety of media in my practice to explore ideas related to uncertainty. To date this has involved the formation of coded systems with ambiguity of meaning, the construction of unstable or improbable structures with their associated perplexity and the unreliability of measurement.
Lesley Munro
Lesley graduated with 1st class honours in Art from Curtin University in 2004, having gained her undergraduate Fine Art degree from the same university 30 years earlier. Predominantly a painter, she's had many solo exhibitions; a lot through Perth Galleries and most recently through Gorepani Art Gallery in Albany. Through her extensive career, she's received a bunch of awards and grants, as well as been included in considerable and respectable publications and collections across WA, Australia and internationally.
Geoff Overheu www.geoffoverheu.com
Geoff completed his Honours in Fine Art from VCA in Melbourne in 2004, having completed studies at both Central TAFE and Curtin University. He's now working on an upcoming solo exhibition.
These works explore various relationships between 'urban romantic' and 'rural' Australia by playing with images associated with landscape; while the former may have images of vast landscapes with kangaroos, cockatoos and huge open skies, our rural iconography presents quite a contrast. By combining a rural iconography with references to art history/theory, these works synthesize new ideas regarding our attitudes towards the Australian landscape.
