Residencies: bASEL, SWITZERLAND (FUNDED)

Artsource manages a six-month residency and exchange to Basel, Switzerland each year. The program gives a WA artist the opportunity to undertake research and creative development in Switzerland. In return, artsource hosts a Swiss artist for six months each year in our Fremantle residential studio. This residential exchange is supported by the Department of Culture and the Arts and the Christoph Merian Foundation of Basel, Switzerland.

The residency for the WA artist includes free accommodation and use of a studio apartment in Basel plus a grant of $21,000 provided through the Department of Culture and the Arts. The residency is from July to December each year.

Applications for the Basel residency close on the 15 October each year, for the residency occurring in the July – December of the following year. The residency will be advertised from August annually.

Applications are assessed by a panel of artists and art industry professionals.

There are no specific outcomes or objectives demanded of the artist during this residency. Artists set their own objectives and goals and outline them in the application form. The panel will be looking for objectives that cannot be achieved from your home base.

Eligibility and selection criteria are as follows:

• Applications are open to professional practicing visual artists who are WA residents
• Selection is based on artistic excellence and potential for development
• Applicants must be members of artsource
