Studios: kelmscott studios

In late 2006, the Armadale Redevelopment Authority offered artsource the use of a property in Kelmscott. The property includes a large old house plus two enormous near-new sheds with three-phase power. The house is due to be demolished in approximately two years as part of re-development plans.

This offer was made as a result of successful NAIDOC week exhibitions held in Armadale and for that reason the Armadale Redevelopment Authority stipulated a preference for Indigenous artists to have first preference in use of the space.

Currently, we have approval for six artists to use the premises between the hours of 6am to 10pm. The spaces can be shared a number of ways depending on the mix and preference of the artists.

So far, there is a ceramicist who has installed a kiln in one of the sheds and a printmaker in the house. Studio space is still available for Indigenous artists.

Artists have been given a two year lease; the same term as artsource holds with the landlord. However, artists can leave the studios at any time by giving 2 months notice, and artsource will offer the space to another artist. Rents range from $11 - $22 per week.

Eligibility and selection criteria are as follows:

• Priority will be given to Indigenous artists
• Priority will be given to Indigenous artists
• Applicants must be artists who are looking to develop their art practice
