| Artsource Fremantle: OLD CUSTOMS HOUSE, 8 PHILLIMORE STREET, FREMANTLE
As well as being Artsource’s Fremantle headquarters, Old Customs House is home for 23 artist studios, and houses several other arts organisations such as NOVA Ensemble, Bizircus and WA Circus School. Old Customs House is located in a heritage building just along from the Fremantle train station and across from the working Fremantle Ports.

Old Customs House Studios are rented for 5 year terms, therefore only 3 or 4 studios become vacant each year. Applications for studios close in March each year and are assessed by a panel of artists and art industry professionals..
Eligibility and selection criteria are:
- Selection is based on artistic excellence
and potential based on support material presented
- Applications are open to professional practicing visual artists who are residents of Western Australia
- Applicants must be members of Artsource and membership must be maintained for the duration of studio tenancy
- Studios must be used for a minimum
of 20 hours per week
- Studios are not available for full-time
students, although studio-based masters students are
eligible
- Studios are not suitable for industrial
or semi-industrial processes (eg. kilns, furnaces,
welding)
Note: Artists from all cultural backgrounds
are encouraged to apply.

| These
studios are managed by Artsource and are subsidised by
the State Government. Studios can be held for up to 5
years; they have 24 hour access, however these studios
are NOT residential. Studio sizes range from 12 sqm -
42 sqm and rent ranges from $26 - $45 per week. Rents
are reviewed annually, but increases are kept to a minimum. |
