Biography

Joie Villeneuve was born in the USA and since moving to Australia has found the flora and fauna here to be an exciting muse. Joie completed a BFA at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design, USA in 1991 majoring in painting and printmaking. Joie exhibits her work internationally and recently was shortlisted for the Midwest Art Prize. She's had shows at The Studio Gallery in Yallingup, in Perth at Gadfly Gallery and at Mariposa Gallery in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her work is held in various collections including in New York, St. Paul, Sydney and Saudi Arabia.

Artist Statement

The theme of "Whale Song" has been transmuted into metaphoric visual poesies that emerge from a heavily textured, mixed-media surface. I work with many different tools, materials and techniques to achieve this including trowels, gouges, sanders and carving tools on a marine-grade wood. Colour, texture, pattern and organic forms are layered into a visual tape
