Rachel Riggs

Biography

Rachel Riggs is a multi disciplinary Fremantle artist with an MA in Fine Art and Early Years Professional. Her previously exhibited work in the UK includes at TATE Liverpool & TATE Britain, London as well as work shown in WA at AGWA, PIAF and SLWA . Rachel is an internationally experienced visual creative who designs & directs work for all ages using traditional and contemporary techniques. She devises creative projects for indoors & outdoors with professionals, community groups and young people, collaborating together to visually tell stories. Rachel is also a specialized Early Years artist & consultant with her ‘Imaginary Leaps’, early years creative engagement programme. She is associate artist with Sensorium - Sensory Theatre for Spec. Needs children, touring to Sydney Opera House and nominated for a Helpmann Award 2016. Currently, project manager for CANWA, wall mural Narrogin.

Artist Statement

Rachel Riggs artworks explore the collective nostalgic narrative of our sensory relationships to found objects. Ethereal fragments, worthless objects and abandoned materials, are upcycled to create a hint of memory, the lost and found everyday junk made into the extraordinary! Her background in puppetry & theatre, also influences her installation art.
