Deborah Ralph-Kafarela

Biography

Deborah Ralph-Kafarela, an emerging artist, Born 1968, North Shore, Sydney, resides and works in the Perth Hills of Western Australia. Interconnection that may be developed with environ and divinity, however fractural that interconnection may be, and the iconography used to represent reconciliation permeate her work. Following Ralph-Kafarela's ancestors she maintains a keen enthusiasm in human rights issues, expressing a voice for the voiceless. "Artists are keepers of time, visual historians of their era,and depict through their use of materials and the symbolism used their individual perspective of human interaction, their cultural and religious observation". Her influences are Kathe Kollwitz and Ai Weiwei with their stories of culture and injustice and Brook Andrews, Eva Hesse, J Kirk Richards and Giuseppe's use of minimalist approaches to material to represent myth/story.

Artist Statement

My work proclaims stories of the cooperative association of interpersonal relationships; between man and environ, between man and woman and between man and cultural/religious identity. Resilience of the human condition and the ways in which people reconcile are reflected in iconography and minimalist approaches in materials-bees wax, wood, paper, polyethelene.
