Fiona Buchanan


Fiona Buchanan is a Western Australian artist working in oils and pastels. She works in Perth with a studio at Heathcote Cultural Precinct and also in the Southwest of WA from where comes her inspiration. Her main subject is the coastline and ocean of WA. Fiona studied scenic art and design in Perth and has worked on theatre productions and mural projects around Australia. Fiona has won art awards in Australia and her work is held in collections both here and overseas. Her current work is an investigation of the complex relationship between the human soul and the wild energy of the ocean. Fiona's work is also a representation and a reminder of the beauty of the earth and the fragility of the balance of nature.

Artist Statement

I am primarily a painter. I currently work in oils and pastel and my current subject is the energy of the ocean and its connection to the human soul. I wok in oils on canvas and in pastel. I take and use my own reference photos and love visiting the places that I paint.
