Biography

Art for me began as a four year old with wax crayons and plasticine on my first day at school but a career in art dawned when I graduated with a Diploma of Art and Design from Perth Technical College in 1992. Pastels are my preferred medium as their vibrancy and immediacy are perfect for my painting style, but I also work in oils and wet media. Although creating artworks is a reclusive lifestyle, I’m very fortunate to live in the Byford hills sharing my beautiful garden with the natural fauna that provide a welcome distraction. A quote from Michael Kane Taylor (UWA) “Shirley Fisher’s landscapes are well-known to collectors in Australia and overseas. Her mastery of the pastel medium is exemplified in her exquisite renderings of the Western Australian littoral. The works are highly figurative whilst retaining strong expressive elements and a very evident sense of place.”
