Lauren Gavriel

Biography

Lauren was born and raised in the coastal town of Durban, South Africa. Life found her moving to Cyprus and whilst there her love of history, culture and art amalgamated in the discovery of mosaic. Under the tuition of Soulla Christou, at the Mosaic Collective in Limassol, Lauren excelled in mosaic; she was offered a position at the collective as an artist and tutor. During this time she created and collaborated on commissions for private clients, companies and the City of Limassol, she also participated in frequent group exhibitions. Outside the collective, Lauren exhibited and completed private commissions of murals, fireplaces, tables, mirrors and other decorative pieces. Relocating to Perth in 2013, the past 4 years has seen Lauren focus on illustrations and graphic design with the wedding stationery industry. Lauren is currently based at the Heathcote in Applecross.

Artist Statement

My mosaics aim to combine function and beauty to create truly unique pieces. I prefer to use glass tesserae and stained glass for the sheer diversity in colour as well as the natural stones for contrast. I am confident working to both small and large scale as well as on both indoor and outdoor installations.
