Greg Barr

Biography

A proud Ballardong Noongar man born in York, Greg is a naturally gifted visual artist who works predominantly in the medium of acrylic. Greg enjoys creating large-scale layered works, and in addition to using brushes and palette knives, Greg uses a range of innovative techniques such as pouring, spraying, sponging and masking to apply and manipulate mediums on his canvases. Greg also employs the Aboriginal dot painting style. Greg regularly participates in ~10 group exhibitions per year. In 2017, Greg held his first solo exhibition 'The King of the Hearts' at the Moores Building Contemporary Art Gallery, Fremantle. Greg currently practices at the Heathcote Cultural Precinct Studios, and is working towards a small artist show at the HCP Gallery in March 2020. Previous residencies have include the David Giles Art Studio, Fremantle Arts Centre and DADAA's J-Shed Art Studios.

Artist Statement

I enjoy creating large-scale mixed-media works using a range of innovate techniques to apply and manipulate various mediums on my canvases. This allows for a unique blending and layering of colours & textures that contribute to my distinctive abstract and emotive style. My family and Aboriginal heritage are the main inspiration behind my work.
