Biography
Born in 1975 in Bridgetown (WA) Sohan Ariel Hayes spent his early years living within new religious communities in Balingup and Fremantle before completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Western Australia, Perth in 1997. In 2003 he returned to study and completed his Honours year in Visual Arts at Edith Cowan University.
Sohan has worked with Perth Festival and in 2016 was Animation Director and Artistic Associate to Nigel Jamieson on the opening event Home, and again in 2017 and 2019 on Boorna Waanginy: The Trees Speak, which also played at Perth Festival in 2023 and 2024. Recently Sohan contributed animation to Lynette Wallworth’s upcoming feature documentary, Edge of Life, funded by Screen Australia and completed, January 2025. He is currently adjunct Senior Lecturer at UWA and specialises in animation and immersive media.
