Tom de Munk-Kerkmeer

Biography

The past 50 years Tom has been continuously exposed to art and migration. Born in Australia, but raised in the Netherlands, Tom grew up in a family of artists. During the last 30 years Tom's been living and working in many countries with people from many different cultures. His creative journey reflects this eclectic mix of experiences and has meandered through painting, writing, puppet making, sculpture, performance, design, creating rituals and creating installations. Influences of a wide variety of artists can be traced in his works, varying from Piet Mondrian to Jimmie Durham and from Miro to Thomas Hirschhorn. Some of the key concepts, underpinning Tom's work today, are: sense of purpose, sense of belonging, exploration, transformation, interaction, reconciliation, recycling, sustainability and human-nature.
