Richard Foulds

Biography

My art career started in the arts and craft industry where I practiced in stained glass and hot glass work then moved on to Midland TAFE’s Diploma of Environmental Art and Design course. This course instilled in me the desire to pursue an arts practice. After 3 years of this creative course I enrolled in an arts degree at Curtin University in 2007, completing it in 2008. Since finishing my degree I have been in numerous group shows and art prizes along with assisting other artists in their practices, notably Kevin Draper and Gary Aitkin in their public art practices and with Peter Dailey on some of his larger scale gallery pieces. At present I spend time as an installation technician at Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, UWA. My practice is based in sculpture, mainly using mild steel construction but I have created artworks in many materials such as timber, ceramics, resin, cast metals etc.

Artist Statement

I deal with social commentary. No specific subject, but items that have caught my attention at a particular time. The art I create follows a pattern of being light-hearted in its visual sense but asks deeper questions on social issues. I’m sure I don’t have the answers to such questions, but hope to stimulate the viewer on a subject matter.
