Darren Hutchens

Biography

Mural artist specialising in large scale public artworks and community based collaborative projects. Based at the Arts Cartel studio in Fremantle and part of Too Much Colour Productions, a 3 man mural project team with Dan Duggan and Lawry Halden. I have a background in graphic design and illustration and have been working as a community artist since 1999. My unique style shows a sensitive use of colour which transfers to engaging and exciting murals. I enjoy the opportunities public art brings in transforming dull or disused areas into awe inspiring artworks.

Artist Statement

I work in contemporary urban art and am influenced by patterns and forms in nature, motion, comic and graphic novel design and illustration and the historic graphic art styles of the psychedelic and mid-century modern eras. My work conveys a distinct west coast vibe through the strong use of colour, flowing forms and sense of ease and fun.
