Biography

I was born and raised in the Western Australian wheatbelt where hand-making with natural materials was part of my 70s childhood. I observed rather than participated in my family’s religious practice and in the feminist and social justice politics of the 80s but their influences also emerge in my art practice. My first career in science and computing recurs in my work through number play, patterns and experimentation. I graduated from a Contemporary Art degree in 2012 and have worked full-time as an artist since then including residencies in rural WA and Sweden and exhibitions in Perth.

Artist Statement

I use traditional slow textile practices influenced by local materials and environment and the tactile and emotional qualities of cloth to explore tensions between function and content or as surfaces for image or text. I make installation and time-based work to extend the textile field for personal & political ends.
