Ben Reynolds

Biography

I began my photography career in 2010 where I was formally trained at the Central Institute of Technology in Northbridge, Western Australia. I was taught in the traditional way by processing black and white film in the darkroom and was heavily influenced over that time by the great Australian Magnum photographer, Trent Parke. I am still attached to my $50 Canon film camera but as an emerging photographer trying to find my own voice in a very competitive era, I have found that it is important to combine the old and the new. I now work with both film and digital medium, and experiment with different film cameras often combining modern and traditional techniques for final exhibitions.

Artist Statement

As a photo-artist it is important for me to try to stay true my inner artist and not be overly influenced by other styles. The aim of my most recent project is to photograph the Stirling Ranges National Park and surroundings with an artistic, modern approach, and one that would connect me to the earth and my childhood day memories of exploration and fun.
