About

The colours and images in Marcia Espinosa's cow, Earth to Heaven Express were inspired by her South American background and having grown up in a religious country. Her concept shows the Cow as a scared object, a being to which people could address their prayers and also express their earthly hopes and desires.
 

Artist Biography

Marcia Espinosa is a Chilean Australian contemporary visual artist. In her painting and mixed media works are traces of her Latino influences where events, objects and thought are visually engaging with rich colors, lots of energy alongside a touch of humor and irony.

Her artistic process began as a teenager in Chile a country marked by a highly politicised and religious society, immigrating as an adult to Australia with her family. Her primary source of inspiration for her richly diverse work comes from the contrast of her Latin background with the highly developed and modern Australian society. Her art is a portrait of her reflections and questionings about our society structures in areas such as values, beliefs and consumerism.

She studied in Chile where she received her Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts from the Arcis University and continued her studies in Central Institute of Technology (TAFE) in Perth, Australia were she graduated with an Advance Diploma in Visual Arts and Contemporary Craft. She was the recipient of the Emerging Artist Award and the Most Industry Ready Graduate Award from TAFE in 2014 and won the award nomination to Hatched, where she was selected by Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA) to exhibit at Hatched national graduate exhibition 2015.
