Biography
Bean Bowden is a multidisciplinary artist. As a child they were always exploring different mediums hands on and using whatever they could find to create something new. As an adult this exploration has been expanded through 5 years of various art studies at TAFE: Visual arts, jewellery design, and Fashion design. Their practice is largely focused on creating sustainable, wearable art with items that are often overlooked, often involving materials such as found objects, ethically sourced bones, textiles, and semi-precious metals. Topics explored include their queer identity and lived experiences, life and death, cycles of nature, the impact we humans have on the world, and sustainability. Their works encourage audiences to think about everyday objects in a different light, challenging their understanding of systems around them, and exploring topics that may be confronting or taboo.
