Mehdi Rasulle

I came to Western Australia in 2001 as a refugee from Afghanistan. In Kabul, my family operated an art and sculpture enterprise producing mainly reproduction sculpture for the European, Iranian and Russian market. Much of our sculpture was "Renaissance" style artwork which was considered to be against Islamic doctrine by the Taliban. In Australia I have embraced using the local sandstone as well as metal fabrication. I feel very proud and lucky to have had the opportunity to produce public art for WA.

Artist Statement

My art practice consisted predominately of public art projects in Western Australia. I like to use local sandstone and granite combined with metal to give a unique sense of place. I have completed many private commissions and at present my focus is on establishing my own workshop and gallery in Carabooda.
