ArtLease Business Development and Marketing Consultant

Artsource provides high quality artwork by Western Australian artists for clients to lease in order to enrich their working environments through ArtLease.

Artsource is seeking a Business Development and Marketing Consultant to further develop ArtLease and contribute to the organisation’s activities on a part time basis, 0.2 FTE for a six-month term, with possibility of a renegotiated consultancy on completion. This is an exciting time to join the Artsource team, with a renewed Strategic Plan 2020-2024 and increased opportunities for employment growth in the Visual Arts sector in WA.

You will be located at our headquarters at Old Customs House, an iconic heritage-listed building in the heart of Fremantle, which is also home to 25 visual artists studios and the Atrium Gallery. From young and emerging graduates, and artists whose diverse practices include traditional genres to cross-art form collaborations, experimental or performance-based work, to literature and music: the Old Customs House is a hot house of talent. This role provides the opportunity to be at the centre of a thriving creative hub.
The Role

The primary focus of the Business Development and Marketing Consultant is to formulate an actionable business and marketing plan and strategy, inclusive of business background, industry analysis, business information, sales and marketing strategy, finance strategy, and administrative and marketing instruments. This will involve extensive communication with members, colleagues, supporters, and clients, ensuring all ArtLease marketing and branding has an appropriate and consistent message and tone.
Working directly with clients will involve the selection of artwork that aligns with their budget, aspirations, and specific requirements from emerging, and established artists, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, encouraging a wider range of artwork types to be included for lease.

The Business Development and Marketing Consultant will also be required to directly commission artworks, work in consultation with the client to develop, guide, and project manage the selection and commissioning process, and facilitate and oversee the delivery and installation of artwork(s). Maintenance of the ArtLease Artwork portfolio, currency of agreements, overseeing of payments, and ensuring the existing Artlease systems, information, and practices are adequately documented will be part of this this responsibility.
Skills and Experience

The role holder requires a good level of art knowledge (styles, genre, media, contexts) and can understand artists and their ways of working (e.g., speak the language of the arts) in order to liaise and communicate with artists, understand their concerns and needs, present information about ArtLease, and source artwork. The role requires a good eye for what suits the environment and where the work is to be place.

It is essential that the ArtLease Consultant has:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience in Business Development, Visual Marketing, Commerce, Sales and Luxury Branding, Arts, Arts, Media, Creative Industries, and Design Industry Sectors, Visual and / Arts.
  • Be an excellent communicator with strong listening skills to understand and adapt to our clients and their wants and needs.
  • The capacity to set targets and achieve them, and a flair for creative marketing strategies, including website, social media, networking and social promotional events.
  • Natural flair for developing and maintaining networks, ideally with utilizing extensive existing personal extensive networks.

It is desirable that the ArtLease Consultant has:

  • Experience in working in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate (for promotional events)
  • Adobe Creative Suite skills, particular Photoshop, inDesign, and illustrator
  • Web design / management
