The Undiscovered Symposium: A National Focus on Western Australian Art.
Monday 20 October 2014
Artsource co-presented The Undiscovered: A National Focus on Western Australian Art in partnership with the University of Western Australia’s Cultural Precinct. The all-day symposium was held to create a platform for the Western Australian visual arts community to connect, to share and to explore the current environment in which the sector exists.
The event consisted of four panels featuring professionals from four different areas that play an integral part in the vitality of the sector; artists, curators and gallery representatives, institutional representatives and the media. The speakers each presented a short talk on the industry from their perspective, after which delegates were invited to join a Q&A-style forum to engage in conversation about the future of the industry.
Following the symposium we have published in our Magazine a number of articles and reflections arising from the day:
Keynote: Dr Ian McLean, Research Professor of Contemporary Arts, University of Wollongong.
Master of Ceremonies: Victoria Laurie, Arts and Culture writer for The Australian and A.H Kornweibel Award Winner.
