Nada Murphy

Biography

My artistic career started early in life, exploring the banks or the Birrarung_ (Yarra River) where the Heidelberg School painted 100 years before me. I studied Fine Art at the University of Melbourne and Painting Drawing and Printmaking at Perth Technical College. My practice has grown through rural residencies, a commitment to continuing professional skill building, community engagement and mentorship. I have a versatile arts practice working across a range media including paint, print, glass, and textiles each of used with specific intent. Paint may express a realised statement about place, or present abstract imagined landscape. Glass often works with ideas of fragility and tipping points, whilst textiles offer fluidity, or expressions of change over time.

Artist Statement

The primary intent in my work is to discover how place reveals story and people reveal our connection to place. Much of the work interrogates stories of water sources, their relationship to habitat, and our interactions with these. This may uncover critical concerns about environment.
