Jan Purser

Biography

My hope is that my paintings will bring about a sense of peace and ease by those who pause to study them. Perhaps even draw the observer into the little story about that particular scene. Painting is very therapeutic as I allow the creative process to guide the paintbrush and palette knife and I lose myself in the memories of where I had been and the feelings I experienced in that place that I wish to pass on to others through my work. My more recent addition to my art practice, paper mâché work, is a joy to me and I truly relish the creative process of bringing my pots, bowls and vases to life. The tactile nature of hand building is particularly enjoyable. So much so I have begun teaching workshops on paper mache.

Artist Statement

All the aspects of nature can bring about a feeling of pure joy and wonder for me - from the colour and form of exquisite flowers to the power in storm clouds on the horizon or the rugged texture of cliffs and gorges. I love the beauty in nature in all its forms and my passion is to record this in some way to inspire others.
