Ian Dowling: Brief Biographical
After an informal training period with potter Joan Campbell in 1976/77, Ian and partner Beth established the Greenough River Pottery in Mid-West WA. It was based on the production of strong useful pots made and fired using materials at hand. In 1982 Ian and family moved South to Margaret River, building new workshops and a gallery. After many years working in an open studio environment, the possibilities of developing more individual work drew Ian to move to a private space alongside their home in the forest. Large-scale public art, smaller single ceramic sculptural pieces and functional stoneware all have a place in this studio.
Academic study and skills development in new processes have led to private and public commissions. Ian continues to exhibit in group and solo exhibitions between public art projects.
