Saturday 9 November saw more than 250 people descend on Artsource’s flagship Fremantle building for Open Studios, a major event on the Fremantle Festival calendar.
Politicians, arts philanthropists, business people and arts lovers relished the opportunity to step inside the private realm of studio practice and discover the creative process behind some of WA’s most celebrated artists.
Artsource thanks the Hon. Melissa Parke MP, Simone McGurk MLA and Mayor Brad Pettitt for their attendance and ongoing support of our work.
As well as enjoying a self-guided tour of 25 private studios, the 250 strong crowd absorbed a variety of sculpture, painting, and video projections erected in the building’s sweeping hallways.
Before the public poured through the doors at 2pm, Artsource hosted a private Patrons soiree including a guided tour of the studios which house a stunning array of printmakers, photographers, fashion designers, performance artists and more.
While the art took centre stage, CEO Gavin Buckley also took the opportunity to announce Artsource’s exciting new Plus1 appeal. Creative Partnerships Australia awarded Artsource a $30,000 Plus1 grant, however we must first raise $30,000 in order to receive the matched funding.
This grant will strengthen Artsource’s capacity to support Western Australia visual artists with essential services such as the provision of affordable studios.
Artsource manages over 80 private studios located in Midland, Leederville, East Perth, Kelmscott, Belmont, Churchlands and White Gum Valley and Fremantle.
