Perth, Western Australia
-
Client: Perth Public Art Foundation
-
Role of Artsource: Art Consultant
-
Artists: Chris Cobilis
-
Outcome: Temporary public artwork in the Barrack Street precinct area
-
Completion date: 2016
As part of the Perth FLUX Temporoary and Ephemeral public art program, composer, artist and improviser Chris Cobilis, recreated a record store as a homage to the dead formats, replicating it with a carbon copy – a bootleg record store. GRS contained no original media, only copies to which the public are invited to listen using turntables, cassette decks and CD players – playing the bootlegged, colourless, valueless simulacrum that reflect on a time gone by.
