Artist Ian Dowling  won the commission for the public artwork for the Celsius Developments commercial and residential building in Victoria Park. The development houses the client’s new offices and it called for an artwork with refined forms that straddled inside and outside spaces. Dowling’s organic forms complement the modern architectural design and provides a distinctive experience for the patrons of the building, along with passing  traffic.

Inspired by nature, Dowling explains, ‘observations of micro components in both nature and machines are used to make a connection between outer activity and inner secure space’. The dynamic flow of the ceramic artwork from the external void into the entrance foyer mimics the natural movement of people through space. Ceramics continue to be an uncommon large-scale public art media. Artsource is thrilled that Dowling’s artwork has already generated positive public responses to its animated but refined design aesthetic.
